DROITWICH SPA joint-boss Wayne Oliver has said the focus is very much on next season following their defeat to Chelmsley Town.
Knowing a victory on Saturday over Chelmsley would salvage any hope of clinching promotion, Spa failed to rise to the occasion as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat which ended their dreams of a top two finish.
The Saltmen currently find themselves in third spot in the Midland League Division Two table, nine points off second place Chelmsley with four games remaining.
Spa return to league action tomorrow (Tuesday) night against local rivals Fairfield Villa followed by a trip to Sutton United on Thursday (April 28) but Oliver told the StandardĀ the focus is very much on next season.
“It was a game of very few chances on Saturday and Chelmsley wanted the result more than we did so it’s a little bit disappointing,” he said.
“However, we’re starting to focus on next season now, see what players we want to keep and who are surplus to requirements.
“We’re looking forward to going down to Fairfield but it’s game that gives us the opportunity to give lads that haven’t played the chance to get some minutes under their belts.
“The same goes for the game at Sutton but we want to try and finish as high as we can.
“We said at the start of the season that a top five finish and some silverware was the main target and we’ve almost achieved that.”
Following their midweek games, Spa contest the Worcestershire Junior Cup final against West Midlands (Regional) League outfit Worcester Raiders on Saturday at theĀ 2020 SolarPV King George V Stadium – the home of Pershore Town.
