Oliver pleased as Droitwich Spa bounce back from lacklustre performance

DROITWICH Spa boss Wayne Oliver was left delighted as his player’s put on the perfect response following their ‘lacklustre’ defeat to Knowle over the weekend.

The Saltmen slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Knowle in Midland League Division Two on Saturday but returned to winning ways on Tuesday night (October 11) as they secured a 4-2 victory at Redditch Borough.

Borough had taken the lead against the run of play when Luke Bowles headed home before an own-goal and Haydn Morris fired Spa into a 2-1 half-time lead.

After the break, Luke Molloy doubled Spa’s advantage before skipper Andrew Crowther added the fourth. Khurum Iqbal pulled one back for Borough but it wasn’t enough as the Saltmen held on to claim a vital three points.

Oliver said: “We did not deserve to win on Saturday. We did nothing wrong but it was a really lacklustre performance.

“We conceded two late goals but we did not create as much chances as what we do when we play our usual game.

“But we deserved to win on Tuesday, we played some good football and got back to somewhere to where we was a few months ago so it was a good reaction from the players.

“Our target is always top five but we’re playing inconsistently and we are up there so we cannot be too disappointed with that.”

Spa return to league action on Saturday when they welcome Feckenham to the King George Playing Fields.

The Saltmen have already between The Millers twice this season, 7-2 in the league and 1-0 in the Presidents Cup, but Oliver is expecting things to not be so easy this time around.

“Feckenham are a good side, they’re much improved and it will be a very tough game so it would be nice to get another win,” Oliver added.

“There’s no easy games in this division as it has improved greatly but it will be a case of seeing what Droitwich side turns up on the day.”

In other news, James Ward has left Spa to fellow Midland League Division Two outfit Barnt Green Spartak while midfielder Max Crisp has joined Division One side Littleton.
