DROITWICH SPA joint-boss Wayne Oliver believes the pressure to secure promotion is on his side after Chelmsley claimed back-to-back wins over the weekend.
The Saltmen dropped to third in the Midland League Division One table after their game against Sutton United at the weekend was postponed and Chelmsley Town secured 5-1 and 3-1 victories over Austrey Rangers on Saturday and Monday respectively.
With Alvis Sporting Club running away at the top, Spa’s closest promotion rivals Chelmsley sit six points clear of the Saltmen having played the same amount of games.
And going into tonight’s fixture against in-form Paget Rangers, Oliver believes the pressure is now on his side going into the remaining six games of the season.
“It was disappointing to not play on Saturday but it’s put a heap of pressure on us now with Chelmsley climbing up to second,” he said.
“We have got to go out there tonight and get the three points as the only chance we have to secure promotion is to win all our remaining games.
“We win tonight, we close the gap to three points and as we play Chelmsley on the Saturday, it would be a massive boost for us.”
Ahead of tonight’s clash, Oliver has a full strength squad to choose from and insists the only way his side will get the victory is if they bring their A-game.
“We just need to be on it and fully focused,” he said.
“We need to be more ruthless than in recent games and need to be on it from start to finish.
“Paget have underachieved this season but the club has had a bit of turmoil to deal with so next year they’ll be hoping to be up their fighting for the title.
“It’s going to be a really tough fixture for us.”
