Shewell: Droitwich are not here to make up the numbers

Droitwich Editorial 21st Sep, 2017   0

SKIPPER James Shewell hopes Droitwich can lay down a big marker this weekend when they travel to Old Silhillians for a Midlands Two West (South) clash.

The Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground side travel to Solihull on Saturday hoping to make it two wins out of two since their promotion from Midlands Three West (South).

Silhillians finished as runners-up last term and Shewell is expecting them to be fighting for the title once again this year.

“Silhillians will provide us with a tough test,” he said. “But these are the kind of tests we wanted and we are going to have to give an extra 20 per cent than what we have been doing to get the right result.

“It’s all about pushing ourselves and I am sure we can do that.

“We have come into this division to make an impact and not to make up the numbers.

“It would be a big statement of intent to go over to Silhillians and win the game.”

Having been out of league action on Saturday, Droitwich arranged a friendly at Midlands Two West (North) outfit Kidderminster.

Droitwich won the game by a comfortable margin of 46-10 and Shewell was impressed with how the players performed.

“It was important for us to keep our intensity and momentum going, despite not having a league game,” he added.

“Kidderminster are a very good side but we opened them up in the second half and ran out comfortable winners.”
