Shewell: Droitwich not panicking over slow start

Droitwich Editorial 20th Sep, 2018   0

DROITWICH won’t be hitting the panic button following a third straight Midlands One West defeat, vows tight head prop James Shewell.

The Monners, playing at the highest tier of rugby the club has ever been, are certainly experiencing something different having lost just one league game in two seasons prior to the start of the new campaign.

Droitwich’s latest defeat came last Saturday when they threw away a 12-0 lead to lose 21-18 at Worcester.

Bobby Scott-Walker bagged all of the points for Droitwich who are rock bottom of the table in the early stages.

And while a tough home test against last season’s runners-up Dudley Kingswinford is on the cards tomorrow (Friday), Shewell told the Standard  that Droitwich will not be hitting the panic button.

“It’s all about the performances and so far we have been getting better and better,” he said.

“It was frustrating we could not come away with the win at Worcester but it’s a learning curve and everything will come good eventually.

“The league is not decided after three games so we’ll keep plugging away because these defeats will make us stronger as a squad.

“DK will be a tough test for us but we go into the game in confidence knowing our performances are getting to where they need to be at this level.”
