DROITWICH Spa Ladies got their season back on track with an impressive 3-0 victory at Marston Green Ladies thanks to goals from Tara Bell, Ellie Gerhold and Hannah Maiden.
Going into the encounter, Spa had won just one of their last four matches, but having already beaten Marston this season they arrived upbeat of ending their poor form.
From the outset of Sunday’s match Droitwich dominated their opponents and created several good chances. An excellent opportunity for debutant Diane O’Hare and a free kick from Lucy Boswell were the closest the visitors came to opening the scoring, while Spa goalkeeper Beth Roberts made two superb saves to keep the scores level.
The deadlock was eventually broken in the 16th minute. After Gerhold was fouled in the box, Bell converted from the penalty spot to make it third goals in two matches.
Droitwich doubled their advantage 18 minutes later when Gerhold struck following some fine approach work by captain Lindsey Jones.
The away side’s 2-0 half-time lead was extended two minutes into the second period when Maiden fired the ball home after the Marston Green ‘keeper spilled a Sarah Parkinson-Mills cross.
Droitwich manager Ian Fry said: “This was a much better performance from my team and a well-deserved win, but we are still far from our best and have work to do before we reach that standard.”
