SIAN O’Toole created history to become the first Droitwich Amateur Boxing Academy fighter to lift a national title.
After the 16-year-old won the National Association of Boys and Girls Club Championship in Bristol, her coach insisted the ‘sky’s the limit’ for the talented boxer.
O’Toole overwhelmed opponent Ceri-Anne O’Dell, from the Birmingham ABC Boxing Club, and forced the referee to stop the contest in the first round.
O’Toole, who is doing her A-levels at King Edwards in Stourbridge, was on a mission from the first bell as she unleashed a barrage of powerful and perfectly-timed punches on her opponent who had to be given a standing count.
As soon as the referee resumed the bout, more of the same ensued and it was no surprise that the fight had to be brought to an early end with O’Dell unable to continue.
Droitwich ABA coach Jayson Doyle was understandably thrilled with his fighter’s performance.
“Sian is the real deal,” he said. “She is an absolute pleasure to coach because she is so dedicated and trains like a professional – the sky really is the limit for her and she genuinely has the potential to go all the way.”
For any females wanting to follow Sian’s lead, there are ladies-only sessions at the Academy’s King George Playing Fields’ gym that combine fitness and boxing training. The sessions take place between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Thursdays and 10.30am and 11.30am on Saturdays.
