Top award for Droitwich fencers

Droitwich Editorial 13th Sep, 2015 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

OPPONENTS facing two Droitwich fencers will be on their guard after the talented duo received their Gold Proficiency Awards from the British Academy of Fencing.

Finley Cockshott and Thomas Fowler have been competing at Droitwich Spa Fencing Club for many years where they have progressed from Bronze level and have now achieved the highest standard possible.

The award requires the student to fence with a BAF coach under test conditions and to show a detailed knowledge of all aspects of the weapons used.

Finley and Thomas were presented with their awards by Prof Louisa Miller who coaches at the Droitwich club and has gained the highest three-weapon coaching qualification available in the UK.

The club meets every Tuesday evening at Dodderhill School in Droitwich, with juniors starting from 7pm and seniors taking part from 8pm.

A four-week adult beginners course is also being planned to start from September 15 when new fencers of all ages are encouraged to try the sport at a free taster session.
