CRICKET: THE first matches of the 2014 East Worcestershire T20 Cricket League got underway this week with wins for Astwood Bank, Bromsgrove and Redditch.
The league, which will see all teams play eachother, will culminate in a final at the home of last year’s champions Bromsgrove Cricket Club on July 10.
Astwood Bank hosted Barnt Green in their first T20 match of the season and elected to bowl after winning the toss.
This proved a wise decision as Dan Taylor picked up 3/28 to restrict Barnt Green to 181 for 5 with opener and Edward Pollock getting 63.
In reply Bank made 186 for 4 off 16.4 overs with Andrew Alexander making 56 and Pete Alexander an unbeaten 48 off 13 balls to win the match by six wickets.
St Godwalds Park was the venue for Bromsgrove versus Droitwich Spa with the hosts winning by eight wickets. Spa won the toss and elected to bat and made 138 for 6 off their 20 overs with Tom Russell doing the damage with 5-26 overshadowing Max Young’s 62 and Connor Grant’s 63*.
The Boars reached that target in 16.1 overs with Ryan Pedley 62* and Lewis Cordes 40.
At Bromsgrove Road Redditch took on Feckenham and were resounding 10-wicket winners. Feckenham won the toss and elected to bat and made 120 for 8. The Kingsfishers, in response, made 122 off 10.2 overs for a comfortable victory with Tom Field knocking 65 not out.
Next Wednesday Astwood Bank take on Bromsgrove, Barnt Green play Droitwich Spa and then on Thursday Studley go head-to-head with Redditch.
