FELICITY WARBURTON returned home with a silver medal after shining at this year’s British Special Needs Championships in Stoke.
The 12-year-old, a member of Droitwich-based Kazoku-Kan Judo Club, travelled to the Mandeville Stadium on Saturday and in her first fight against Breannen Hulley she showed a variety of great techniques before securing victory with a stunning hip throw.
Warburton’s second opponent was 16-year-old Skye Westwood who had just returned from the Special Olympics.
Again Warburton put up a fantastic effort, giving the Oymmpic gold medallist a run for her money.
However, she came up just short at the end to pick up the silver medal.
Instructor Rich Morrish said: “The whole day was purely inspirational, it wasn’t about winning or losing out there, the level of competition was amazing.
“Seeing so many people with varying additional needs getting out there and giving it their all was very humbling to say the least.
“We are so proud of Felicity for getting out there and getting stuck in.
“She has a very bright judo career ahead of her.”
Kaoku-Kan train on Friday evenings from 6.30pm until 8.00pm at Physique Fitness on the Berry Hill Industrial estate.
