WESTACRE Middle became only third school in six years to land the top Best Team trophy at the annual Worcestershire Schools’ Sailing and Canoeing (WSSCA) OnBoard Regatta event.
With Abberley Hall and The Chase School (Malvern) having dominated the top school standings over the previous five years at Upton Warren Sailing Club, it was the performance of young sailors Archie Coates and Izzy Rollitt who ensured the Droitwich Spa school, who won the trophy in 2010, topped the pile once again.
No fewer than 26 pupils from 11 schools from across the county were competing for 15 sailing and paddling trophies, with sailing in five junior and youth dinghies and sailors ranging in ability from those who only learned to sail this year to those who are competing in national level events.
Westacre’s Year Six pupil Archie was a double trophy winner, finishing first in the Pico sailing class and the Junior Long Distance paddling.
This was the second year in a row Archie finished first in the Pico.
Meanwhile, Year Five student Izzy Rollitt finished the Pico event in second.
Martha Webb, of Cutnall Green Primary, won the Bug trophy while Liam Roberts, of Witton Middle School, took the Junior Slalom Shield.
