Wills sends Sporting into next round

Droitwich Editorial 8th Oct, 2014 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

SAM WILLS coolly dispatched a late penalty to secure Bromsgrove Sporting a 2-1 win over Tipton Town and send his side into the next round of the FA Vase.

The goal in the 80th minute at the Victoria Ground on Saturday also completed a second half comeback from Sporting as Tipton found themselves 1-0 in front at the break.

Ble Pagne gave the visitors the lead, but when Town tired in the latter stages, the Rouslers took full advantage as Chris Conway and Wills struck in the final 20 minutes.

The result puts Bromsgrove into the first round proper where they will host Midlands Football League Division One rivals Nuneaton Griff on Saturday, November 1.

With Tipton languishing at the foot of the Midlands Football League Premier having conceded more than 20 goals in their last three games, Bromsgrove would have been looking to pile more misery on their opponents.

But having signed ten new players for the game after Nicky Pugh was appointed their new manager last week, Tipton seemed to be a completely different side.

Sporting did start well, though, as Sean Brain and Ryan Mahon both hand chances to give their side the lead. But as the half progressed, Tipton began to look more organised and they managed to edge in front.

After breaking out from their own penalty area, the visitors played a number of precise passes before striker Pangne neatly finished past Jake Bedford.

The home supporters voiced their discontent at how easy Tipton scored and for the rest of the half it didn’t get any better.

The second period started in a similar fashion, with Sporting looking un-composed on the ball and void of any creativity.

The catalyst for change came on the hour mark when front man Aaron Daniels was introduced as he became a handful for Tipton’s defence.

And the Rouslers’ pressure eventually told as Conway headed home a cross from the left to get his side back on level terms.

The away side were struggling to contain Bromsgrove and they soon fell behind. With ten minutes left on the clock, Conway cut in from the right and was just too quick for Pagne who took him down leaving the referee with no option but to point at the spot.

Wills then stepped up and confidently slotted the ball into the bottom left corner to send the Sporting faithful into raptures.

And this proved to be enough as the Rouslers comfortably saw out the remaining minutes.
